The WPCTE (Western Pennsylvania Council of Teachers of English) held its fourth annual Flash Fiction contest in October. The NCTE student affiliates at Indiana University of Pennsylvania pre-service English teachers judged the 365 student entries. All stories were presented with no names or schools.
As in the previous three years, KIES and/or KPS students have won first place and/or honorable mention in the grade bands. Sofia Goetz won the 4-6 grade band with her story, "Bella, The Story of a Hero." Ezra Novotny received an Honorable Mention for his story, "The Eruption." In the primary school, Devney Amick received Honorable Mention in the 1-3 grade band for her story, "Hot Cocoa Town." The students participated in a virtual awards ceremony on January 10th.
